Desalination Engineer
Department : Project Engineering
Section : Desalination and Water Provision
Job Location : Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia
1. Basic Function :
The Desalination Engineer plans, directs and controls the desalination and water
reticulation activities to maximize the cost effectiveness and ensure the
quality of the total desalination and water reticulation systems with the aim of
maximizing personnel and equipment safety and minimizing operational cost of the
systems. Responsible for entire desalination, water reticulation compressor and
air reticulation systems including standards and specification design, design
review, system development and project completion. The incumbent is also
responsible for the required interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
2. Work Performed:
a) Define the required project specification for the desalination, water
reticulation, compressor and air reticulation systems as well as the water and
air balancing philosophy to be applied across the entire project.
b) Correlate all the project specification for the desalination, water
reticulation, compressor and air reticulation as well as the water and air
balancing philosophy.
c) Review the design package of desalination, water reticulation, compressor and
air reticulation system and the water and air balance control across the entire
project.
d) Guide and supervise the desalination, water reticulation, compressor and air
reticulation team and individual in mechanical aspects of the project.
e) Determine the optimum water and air management system to be utilized.
f) Ensure the integration of Mechanical system to process control, electrical,
security, fire detection and prevention and MIS systems and equipment.
g) Ensure that all mechanical designs provide for maximized personnel and
equipment safety.
h) Coordinate and contribute in defining the requirement for all project
mechanical systems.
i) Ensure the required quality and management standards and documentation
systems are incorporated and maintained.
j) Provide on job training for Saudi employee, as per Company policy.
k) Participate in apply safety and quality management principles and process.
l) Provide relevant inputs to various types of records. Prepare periodical plan
and analysis report on progress of projects.
m) Attend required meetings to present electrical status and progress and give
briefings and presentation.
n) Perform any other duties with similar scope as may be required.
3. Work Contacts:
Normal contact with immediate associates and own level with his and their
departments in addition to next higher level within the department regarding the
project design, planning and analysis recommendation. He communicates through
personal, telephone, email and meeting contacts. He also has regularly contact
with consultants and contractors regarding project requirements and with next
higher level for reporting and recommendation.
4. Independence of Operation:
He determines work methods from alternative existing methods in accordance with
established policies and professional standards. Completed assignments and
process reviews are subject to further review.

7. Work Environment:
Normally air condition office environment
Commonly visits construction & contractor sits where exposed to environmental
condition.
8. Minimum Requirements:
a. B.Sc., in mechanical engineering and,
b. Minimum 2-3 years experience as a project engineer or manager of complex
projects relating to desalination, water reticulation, air compressing, air
reticulation and water and compressed air management of large sites and,
c. Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience as section engineer in charge of
mechanical maintenance of a extensive and complex chemical, petro-chemical or
mining complex and,
d. Familiar with Computerized water and compressed air management systems.
e. Familiar with Computerized process control systems and experienced in the use
thereof.
f. Good knowledge of English.
g. Computer literate and PC application.
h. Familiar with thermodynamics and steam would be advantageous.
