Description: POWER PLANT OPERATIONS MANAGER
Qatar
Tax Free Salary and Significant Benefits Package
Qatar Petroleum and Hydro have formed a joint venture alliance (Qatalum)
in order to develop, construct, and operate a world-class aluminium
smelter in Qatar. When the plant comes in operations late 2009 it will
be one of the world’s largest and most competitive primary aluminium
plants. The smelter, casthouse, carbon and power plant will employ
between 1100 - 1200 people. The power plant will be a combined cycle
power plant.
As a result Qatalum is now seeking an experienced Power Plant Operations
Manager.
The gas fired Qatalum power plant will consist of a number of elements
including four large “F” class gas turbines, two steam turbines and
their associated plant. The power plant will also have responsibility
for HV distribution to the Aluminium smelter.
The Role
As a key member of the Qatalum Power Plant Management Team, you will
report directly to the Power Plant Manager. You will have overall
responsibility for managing, motivating and setting objectives for the
Operations Team. You will head up this Team through the mobilization /
commissioning phases and into full operation. Being in charge of the
operational budget, you will strive to achieve good balance between
productivity, risk and cost at all times to ensure the highest levels of
reliable energy supply to the aluminum smelter. You will also have
responsibility for management of the power plant Permit to Work system
and establishing measures ensuring secure emission control. In addition,
you will be one of the key people to drive environmental, health, safety
and operational performance culture across the power plant at all times.
The Person
To apply for the role, you will need to have significant power plant
experience, of which around five years should have been in Power Plant
Management, preferably including the mobilization and operation of a
large combined-cycle power plant. You will be able to display a clear
track record in driving operational improvements, and delivering results
within an international and multicultural environment. As a commercially
aware individual you would be expected to possess firm and direct
leadership skills, with the ability to display independent thinking,
along with excellent analytical and people development capabilities.
